When I work as a Divorce Coach, I meet with one partner or spouse when the other partner/spouse has their own Divorce Coach. If I am acting as a divorce coach for both people, I meet individually with each person. After one or two sessions, we meet together in either three- or four-way sessions (depending on the number of coaches) to begin the collaborative mediation process. I may again meet with clients individually at any time during the process.

The divorce coaching sessions may take place concurrently with lawyer negotiations or they may take place before clients meet with lawyers. If a separation agreement is already in place, the sessions may take place after legal proceedings. The number of collaboration or mediation sessions vary as per the needs of the couple and divorce coaches can be available on an as needed basis over time.

As a Divorce Coach, I provide:

  • Emotional and psychological support regarding losses and concerns
  • Information about stages and tasks related to separation and divorce
  • Communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Co-parenting strategies if children are involved
  • Mentoring and guidance regarding concerns and wishes
  • Mediation and facilitation during three or four-way sessions
  • Guidance in developing a Parenting Plan and schedule
  • A team approach with lawyers as possible
  • Support for maintaining a collaborative approach towards resolution
  • Encouragement for fostering good-will and cooperation
  • Exploration of transformational and spiritual aspects of this life transition
